Contour

 I have some water soluble ink in a couple of my pens. Since we are only using pen for some contour drawings I decided to try them. Then hit some of it with a brush with a little water.

Drove around the neighborhood.

Actually this was a good practice attempt. I get to looking at too much at once. Must tell myself to slow down. I find that hard.

Trying New Stuff ?

 

Playing around with just one color plus an ink drawing (no pencil) is rather fun especially if you try different values.

This was after a busy day for me. 

But it was fun to just quickly sketch all the things I had accomplished. When I look back at it now, I just kinda smile at myself.

I start on lesson #2 of Foundations next. Not sure what that will bring?

Values

 I finished 7 more pigments from my palette. I only did 5 values each. 

Then I tried a sketch using my carbon pen and just one watercolor. I used ultramarine blue and tried to get all 5 values. I think it would be fun to try another sketch and use another color with only 5 values.

Color Mixtures

 

This was a fun exercise!

I have done color mixtures in oil paints before but for some reason I’ve never taken the time to put one together in watercolor. Maybe it’s because I have different palettes with different color paint in each one? This time I’m going to stick with this one for as long as I can 😏

Which Watercolors?

Next phase is to decide on the watercolor paints to start with. I say start with because I might change them as we progress.

Next I did some glazing with the selected colors. The paper isn’t the greatest but I’ve decided to use it anyway. I’m not getting any younger and I have a rather large stash of empty journal books to use up 😉.

Decided to try a value chart on a few of my colors .

Next might be some mixtures?

Testing Out My Sketch equipment…

 I checked out my water pencils and decided to keep just 7 plus a water soluble graphite pencil.

After that I tried out all my pens. I’m keeping 5 for now plus a white Unibal for highlights.

Next was trying out brushes. There are a couple daggers, a couple travel kind and of course a small water brush.

 

Welcome 2022

I’ve signed up for a class with Liz Steele called “Foundations”.

I think I’ll post some of the things I do here. First is my sketch equipment. Both watercolor paint and watercolor pencils. I like ink and watercolor. It has become my favorite for some time now but i thought I’d like to branch out a bit. Try not to be too detailed and try some watercolor pencils.

Also I have some pens and brushes to choose from.
